I found this very short but powerful reminder on listening. It’s entitled ‘Listening to my 2 year old.‘. It was waiting for me to find it in the archives on LDS.org. I wanted to share that with you this day.
I know that listening to our children can be so hard, especially when they are doing things to push our buttons. Happens to all of us. Oh, how I need reminders constantly to remember the big picture, and to take the time to breathe and listen. I loved how this article gave the mental picture of her child being a teenager, wanting her mother to listen.
We came down to this earthly life for a reason, well, for many reasons. One of those reasons is to be tested, in order to help us learn and become like our Savior, Jesus Christ. Another reason is to gain understanding on parenting, and to hopefully catch a glimpse of what our Heavenly Father sees. He loves His children with a perfect love, and we are so far from perfect, but with tiny, humble steps, we can improve daily on our journey. Our lives are eternal, and this earthly life is a small, tiny part. A small part that gives us testing time, lessons to learn, joy to experience, and memories to cherish. Oh, to remember this, and to continue humbly to learn these lessons.
